Neither of those methods work on my Redmi Note 1W. There is no Updater app on my phone, and no menu in System Updates.
The boot buttons do not work either. The Vol + and Vol – functions are revered, but the boot menu does not work in any case.
Any other way to get to recovery menu?

It’s strange that your Redmi Note doesn’t come with the Updater app, and the mentioned steps to Reboot to Recovery mode option didn’t work on your on Redmi Note. I read in the MIUI forum that you can actually boot your phone to recovery using the Mobileuncle app. But to use this app you need to root your phone. Personally, I’ve not done it before.
Sorry, I don’t own a Redmi Note and your case is a bit strange, I would advise you to seek help in the official MIUI forum. There are experts over there. Sorry for not being able to help.
