It’s very simple to change the fonts on your Redmi. This article will walk you through 2 methods to do that.
i. Install & apply a new font from the Themes app
- On your phone, find and launch the Themes app.
- Tap Category and Component.
- On the Components screen, tap Font.
- Tap to select the font you want.
- On the Font details screen, tap Download.
- Once the download finishes, tap Apply.
- If you’re prompted to reboot the phone, tap Reboot.
ii. Install & apply a new font using the downloaded .mtz file
Update: Xiaomi has changed its MIUI theme policy to stop any application of themes and theme components that are downloaded externally. Here’s the new theme policy. You need to sign up for a Xiaomi Designer account in order to use externally downloaded theme and font files.
There are times you may want to install a font file in .mtz format that is being shared on the forum. The following steps show you how to do this:
- Download the font file from the forum. For example, you can find one here on the miui.com forum.
- If it’s a ZIP file, you should extract the files on your computer.
- Copy the .mkz files to your phone storage or SD card using the USB data cable.
- On your phone, find and launch the Themes app.
- Select the Local tab.
- Tap the Menu button and select Import from SD card.
- Now, you can browse to the appropriate folder, and tap the .mtz file you want to install.
- Once that’s done, select the Category tab, then tap Component.
- Tap Font.
- On the Font screen, tap Local, and then select the thumbnail of the font you’ve just installed.
- Tap Apply.
- If you’re prompted to reboot the phone, tap Reboot.
Note: The steps here were written for MIUI V5, based on Android 4.2.2 on a Redmi (HM1W). If you’re having a different model of Redmi or other version of MIUI/Android, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.
