To set up your Hotmail, Live, Outlook.com or MSN account on your Redmi/Mi 3, you can either do it automatically or manually.
i. Setting up a Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com/MSN account automatically
- On your phone, find and launch the Mail app.
- If there isn’t an email account currently set up on the Mail app, you’ll see the Add an account screen. Else, tap the Menu button > Settings > Add account
- On the Add an account screen, tap Exchange.
- Next, you can fill in the information for the following fields: Email address, Password, Your name (optional) and Account name (optional), then hit Next. Note: If your account has the two-step verification turned on, you’ll need to enter the app password here. Find out how to generate a Microsoft’s app password here.
- If you have the email address and password entered correctly, it’ll automatically configure the email server settings for you.
- Customize the frequency of automatic mail fetches, then hit Done to complete the setup.
ii Setting up a Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com/MSN account manually
If for some reason, the above method doesn’t work for you, try configuring your account manually. Here’s how:
- On your phone, find and launch the Mail app.
- If there isn’t an email account currently set up on the Mail app, you’ll see the Add an account screen. Else, tap the Menu button > Settings > Add account
- On the Add an account screen, tap Other.
- Enter the following fields: Email address, Password, Your name (Optional) and Account name (optional), then tap Manual setup. Note: If your account has the two-step verification turned on, you’ll need to enter the app password here. Find out how to generate a Microsoft’s app password here.
- Select Exchange.
- On the Account setup screen, fill in the following fields, then tap Next.
- Domain/Username: \xxx@hotmail.com (Enter your full email address)
- Password: Leave it untouched.
- Server: Use either m.hotmail.com or s.outlook.com
- Use secure connection(SSL) : Enable
- Port: 443
- Customize the frequency of automatic mail fetches, then hit Done to complete the setup.
If neither of the above works for you (which is very unlikely) and you’ve given up trying, all I can suggest is download the Outlook app. Use this as your last option.

Hi,
Why Mi3 does not support Outlook Web Access (OWA), xiaomi missed that option which is required user to run his business emails on his mobile.
Very important application for corporate user.
Any suggestion or option available to configure owa on xiaomi Mi3.
Thanks
Ethan says
I don’t have much knowledge about OWA nor I’ve an OWA account/environment to test on. But you might want to take a look at these 2 apps:
1. OWA for Android (Pre-Release) – By Microsoft.
2. OWM for Outlook Web Email OWA (Paid app)

Sorry, I’ve no idea why is it behaving this way. Maybe or maybe not it’s a bug. You better seek advice from the experts in MIUI forum.

Hi Ethan – i’m not able to setup my office email Exchange on mi3 as it requires storage encryption which seems to be not provided in mi3..is that true? its quite a bummer that mi3 can’t be used for office mail..any workarounds ?
Ethan says
Sorry TS, I have no idea about Exchange with “Encrypt storage card” and I don’t have such an account to try. You may want to seek help in MIUI forum or check with your internal IT personnel.

Hi TS. We have same problem with our official email, Email was working fine for couple of months and now my corporate exchange has done changes which required encryption. Me and one of my colleague is using Touch Down application which is available on play store. Official emails work fine with that.
