Important Note: (27/03/2015): Here are the tutorials for the official English version of Mi PC Suite (a.k.a. MiPhone Manager)
Updated on 1/9/2014: The new version MiPhone Manager 2.0 has been released. The steps below are not applicable to this version. Kindly follow the steps here to get the English version of MiPhone Manager 2.0.
If you own a Xiaomi phone such as a Redmi or Mi 3, you can install the MiPhone Manager on your computer to manage it.
At the time of writing this, the MiPhone Manager is only available in Chinese, but thanks to member “34959338” from MIUI forum, he has created a workaround for us.
Here’s how:
Note: All credits go to “34959338” who did the translation and guided us on the workaround in this thread.
- Download MiPhone Manager from http://zhushou.xiaomi.com/
- Double click the MiSetup exe file, then click Start installation.
- When the installation completes, MiPhone Manager will launch automatically.
- Now, you can see the Chinese version of MiPhone Manager. Close it for now and continue with the steps below.
- Download and extract the zipped file from this link. After extraction, you should get the following 3 modified files: mres.dll, skin.res and uiconfigs. Tip: If you can’t download the file via the given link, you can download it directly from this thread.
- Copy and replace these files in C:\Users\YOUR USER\AppData\Local\MiPhoneManager\main folder.
- Note 1: AppData folder is a hidden folder in Windows.
- Note 2: If you get a “file in use” error, try terminating all the MiPhoneManager processes on the Task Manager, and do the copy and replace again.
- Note 3: I’ve only tested the following path on a Windows 7 and 8.1 computers.
- Now, you can launch the MiPhone Manager to confirm it’s in English.

What OS is your laptop running? Have you try installing the official English version of the MiPhone Manager? The link to the installation guide is available on this post. If your laptop is running on Vista, kindly search for tutorial in the MIUI forum.

You install miinst.exe like administrator or a user?
Ethan says
As far as I remember it’s normal user on my windows 7.

I can’t launch the miphone manager Application
Ethan says
Kindly read this thread for more information. The last update from other users is that only copy mres.dll and uiconfigs and replace in main folder , dont copy skins.res as it causes conflict wit mitransfer file original setup files. Give this a try. If it still doesn’t, I guess there’s nothing we can do except waiting for the official English version from Xiaomi.

ethan how to stop the auto upadte of the mi manager app???
Ethan says
As far as I know, you can only stop it by disconnecting the Internet from your PC every time you launch the software.

Is rooting redmi 1s will void warranty
Ethan says
Most feedback from the moderators said it doesn’t void the warranty. To 100% sure, you can contact Xiaomi hotline of your respective country.

I can’t launch the Application when I copied the skin.re file. I get the following errors: “DownloadHandle.cpp(305):download_finish_!=NULL”, “DownloadHandle.cpp(314):download_progress_title_!=NULL”, “DownloadHandle.cpp(315):download_finish_title_!=NULL”.
Any fix on this issue?
Thanks!
Ethan says
If you’ve downloaded the MiPhone Manager application from http://zhushou.xiaomi.com/, you’re probably getting the latest version 2.0. In that case, the steps might not be applicable to this version. Try following the steps here for version 2.0. Thanks, I’ll update the post to acknowledge the users.

I’ve only a 32bit Windows 7 to test on my side. I’ve done re-installation quite a number of times, but never come across this issue. In the MIUI forum, no one has given any better suggestion except for re-installing the MiPHone manager.
Give this thread a try. Its download includes the setup file in English + the patch. If you still having the same problem after this, report it in that particular thread. Hopefully someone who knows better can help.

I have followed the above steps.
Now it looks like Zipped location you mentioned is no more valid.
Could you please name the file/application in zipped version in

Thanks for the nice article. I am from India and finding difficulty in getting what I needed for connecting Xiaomi Mi3 to Windows 7.

I have done according to above steps, but only first page is translated to English, rest pages like apps and games are still in chiniese
Ethan says
As far as I know those contents are retrieved from the server directly. For now, this workaround is the best way you can get Mi Phone in English. Hopefully, Xiaomi can come out with an official English version in near future.
