Your Xiaomi phone might not have the speed dial feature, but you can use the following unconventional methods to quickly call your favorite contacts.
To create a direct dial widget for a contact:
- On your phone, find and launch the Contacts app.
- Find and long tap the contact you want to place on the home screen.
- Select Place on Home screen.
- Select Direct Dial, then hit OK.
Tip: If you have created a lot of direct dial widgets, you can use a folder to organize them on your home screen.
ii. Add a contact to Favorite.
The favorite contacts are always listed first on the contact list. Therefore, you can add frequently called contacts to “Favorites” to have them listed ahead of others.
- On your phone, find and launch the Contacts app.
- Find and tap a contact.
- Tap
to add to Favorite.
iii. Make a call from the call logs
On the Recent call log screen, you can tap an entry to make a call directly.
iv. Make a call from the Messaging app
While reading a message, you can tap to call the sender directly.
v. Use a 3rd party dialer with speed dial feature
If you can’t live without the speed-dial feature, you can download a 3rd party dialer such as ExDialer (trial version with 7 days trial period) that comes with the ability to place a call by pressing a reduced number of key.

Hey Ethan,
I’m a proud owner of Xiomi RedMI 1S
Its a great phone, considering that im not a heavy user of internet nor games, simple whatsapp and phone calls.
I realized something which i wanted to get clear from you…..
can you tell me how to choose a mp3 file to set as a ring tone in redmi 1s phone.
I do not see the options when i go to the file directly
Nor do i see any option to browse from a location.
Does it have that option ?
Thanks
Saju

This is how I do it on my Redmi.
Alternatively, if you can see the song on your Music app, long tap the song to select it, tap More > Use as phone ringtone.

I’ve this problem when trying to make a phone call from any of CONTACTS list. Once I press onto any of the contacts from the list, the phone automatically goes back to the Home screen & t doesn’t dial the number stored on that contact. Instead I’ve to manually use the number pad to call that contact. I would expect to dial the person’s number when I choose the contact.

You didn’t mention which Xiaomi phone you’re using. But, anyway update your phone to the latest firmware to check if you still have the same problem. If yes, go to the Contacts app info screen to do a Clear data. Last resort, backup your data and do a factory reset.
