How to hide files/folders in Explorer on Xiaomi device ?

Whether you want to hide a file or folder, you can follow the steps below to do that :

Tip: In Android, any files and folders with names preceded by a period are hidden.

  1. On your Xiaomi device, find and launch the Explorer app.
  2. Find and long tap the folder/file you want to hide to select it. For this tutorial, I’m taking pics folder as an example.
  3. Tap More > Rename.

  4. Enter a period before the folder name, then hit OK.

  5. That’s it. You have successfully hidden this folder.

Note:

  1. By default, the hidden files or folders are not shown on the Explorer app.
  2. You also can’t search the hidden files and folders on the Explorer app.

To “unhide” a folder on your Xiaomi device, follow these steps:

  1. On your Xiaomi device, find and launch the Explorer app.
  2. Tap the Menu button > Show hidden files.
  3. Find and long tap the folder/file you want to “unhide” to select it.
  4. Tap More > Rename.
  5. Remove a period before the folder name, then hit OK.
  6. That’s it. You’ve successfully “unhide” this folder.

Note: The steps here were written for a Xiaomi device running MIUI V5. If you’re having a different version of MIUI, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.

  1. I an not able to view hidden image sin Redmi Note 4G. I have gone through the tutorial . after going to Mi Cloud option at the bottom, there is nothing where i can draw a pattern which i have created when hiding the images.

    • Is your phone running MIUI 6? Kindly update your phone to the latest firmware. And then follow the steps described here. The Settings button should be in the upper right corner.

    I am not able to unhide pictures in my MI4I phone , I have hidden pictures but now unable to find as i have not created any album just selected some random pictures and added in hidden folders. Please help

    I am able to see all these options to unhide an album on my Note 4g. But sadly, I am not able to see the hidden folder wherein my images are being moved. When I unhide the hidden folders from Gallery options I was only able to see hidden folders like Wallpapers etc. but it is not showing the folder where my pics are being saved. How do I locate that folder? 🙁 Please assist

    • Hi bo. Kindly follow the steps above. It should works for all standard Android phones, not just Xiaomi.

        • In Android, any files and folders with names preceded by a period are hidden.
          For example, if you have a folder named “folder1”, to make it hidden you just need to put a full stop (or a period) in front of the folder name, “.Folder1”
