How to check if your Xiaomi phone is fake or not using Mi Identification ?

How can you tell if the Xiaomi phone you bought from a physical store or online (some sites other than the official Mi and partner sites) is genuine ? One of the easiest ways is by using the Mi Identification app.

Here’s how:

  1. On your Xiaomi phone’s browser, access this thread to download the Mi Identification apk. Note: You need to reply this thread in order to see the download link.
  2. When the download finishes, it’ll start installing automatically. And, you’ll probably see the Install blocked prompt, tap Lift ban to continue. If you don’t see this prompt means you’ve already enabled your phone to allow the installation of apps from unknown sources in the Security settings.

  3. Tap Install.

  5. When the installation finishes, tap Launch.

  6. If you’ve yet to set the Power settings of your Xiaomi phone to High Performance, you will see the screen below. Tap Manually set the operation mode, and select High performance. Note: Not all Xiaomi phones have this feature; therefore you might not see this screen on some of the models.

  7. Tap Immediately identify.

  8. At last, you’ll see the result screen. Here are the results from 3 different phones:
    1. The Mi 3 that I bought from the official Xiaomi website.

    2. The Redmi I got from a physical store. While it’s genuine, but there’s no sales and warranty date. The warranty is offered by the store itself.

    3. Just for the fun of it. I ran this app on a Samsung Galaxy S5, and here’s the result.

  3. how can I check my balance on mi? Because if I use the Service code for balance inquiry, the response is ‘invalid MI USSD code’

    • Code to check the credit balance is different for each service provider. You need to check with your Service Provider. If whatever given doesn’t work, then it could be a bug in the firmware as I have seen threads about this issue in the MIUI forum.

    I lost my redmi note dual sim a few days back but I still have the imei numbers.Is there a way to lock the phone so that no one else can use it? Can it be done from your end?

  17. Hi Ethan, I’m using redmi note 4g (miui6). When I select the unwanted sms in the inbox and try to add to the block list nothing happens. My blog list on the security app is empty. I tried the default and my rules both. Any advice? Please.

    • Are you using the latest MIUI 6 ROM 6.3.5.0? I tested on my Redmi Note 4G running this ROM with no problems.

  19. Dear ethan How do i change the way attending phone calls in Mi 3. And kuai pan is not to be seen after the last update. When will the next update of MIUI v6 launch in India.

    • 1. Want to change the call answering gesture ? Unfortunately, there’s no such a fature in MIUI 6 at the moment.
      2. In MIUI 6, you can access kuaipan from the My Files app. You can also download the Kuaipan app from the Google Play store.
      3. Sorry Henry, I’ve no idea on when will the Indian local version of MIUI 6 be released. I don’t work for Xiaomi and I don’t have internal information 🙂

  21. bought Xiaomi MI4 however, it was in chinese (alot of things in chinese). already go to setting & change the language but not all were change to english, how do I fix this?

    also, accidentally change my original default theme but wanted to get back the original setting. for your info, when touch theme folder, only chinese wording is out no english. Original setting to answer swipe gesture is to left/right but now is swipe upward which i find it inconvenient.

    b.t.w. is there any manual for Xiaomi MI4 usage, try searching for it but no avail. Thank you.

    • Kindly change the theme back to the default from the Themes app to check if you still see the Chinese wordings in the same area. If yes, I guess there’s nothing much you can do, because currently I believe there’s only China version of MIUI 6 firmware for Mi 4.

    I am using Redmi 1s. Can you tell me how should i rotate the keyboard when i am using stock message app? Rotation is on but it doesn’t happen in the message app. But when i rotate the keyboard in Google Search, it works fine. Please Help!

    • As far as I’ve read in the MIUI forum, the app itself doesn’t rotate, therefore the keyboard isn’t rotating. This is something the developer has to work on.

        There is always slight pause or i can say hiccup when i am playing subway surfer, which is really annoying. I have never come across this problem in other cell phones. I have updated MIUI version but with no avail. I am using V45. Its been only 3 days since i got my cell phone. Please Help! Thanks.

        • Hi Tom, I’m not a big fan of playing games on my mobile phone, so I’ve not tried play anything on my unit. A quick check in the MIUI forum showed quite a few threads talked about this issue.

          Some suggested to change the CPU usage to “Performance” instead of “Balance” in the Security app.

          Some with root access to their phones, they managed to tweak their 1S to play HD games without lag.
