When you tap the Camera button on your WhatsApp chat window, you probably be asked if you want to allow WhatsApp to use the camera. If you tap Deny (with the Remember my choice checked by default), you can’t take a photo and share it via WhatsApp.
The 2nd time you perform the same action, you probably don’t see the same prompt anymore. So how do you change the permission to make it allow ?
Here’s how:
- On your phone, find and launch the Security app.
- Tap Permission.
- Tap Manage App Permissions.
- Tap the Apps tab.
- Find and tap WhatsApp.
- Tap Use camera, and then select Allow.
Note: The steps here were written for a Xiaomi device running MIUI V5. If you’re having a different version of MIUI, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.

I don’t believe there’s such an option on the WhatsApp itself. Without root access on your phone, there isn’t much alternative.
BTW, I did a quick check on my Redmi, all the media files are saved to external SD card automatically. Isn’t your Redmi 1S the same case ?
