As of writing this, the 2 Xiaomi phones, Redmi and Mi 3 that I’m having currently, do not support file transfer via Wi-Fi Direct.
While you can establish Wi-Fi Direct connection between them by following the steps below, you don’t get to choose Wi-Fi Direct when you want to send a file/files.
To establish Wi-Fi Direct connection between 2 Xiaomi devices:
- On both Xiaomi devices, tap the Settings app > Wi-Fi > Menu button > Wi-Fi Direct.
- Next, the nearby phones with Wi-Fi Direct enabled will be listed here. Tap on the one that you wish to connect to.
- Now, when it comes to file sharing, you don’t see the Wi-Fi Direct option available. So, here’s the problem !
This is one of the features that Xiaomi has to work on in the near future.
As of right now, if you wish to enjoy blazing fast Wi-Fi Direct file transfers, you can try using the SuperBeam app.
Read this article for a step-by-step instruction on how to use SuperBeam on your Xiaomi phones.
Note: The steps here were written for a Xiaomi device running MIUI V5. If you’re having a different version of MIUI, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.
