Here are a few basic ways to customize the status bar on your Xiaomi phone running MIUI V5:
i. Showing/Hiding service provider name on the status bar
- On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Additional settings.
- Slide the Show service provider switch on/off.
ii. Showing/Hiding screen capture notification on the status bar
- On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Additional settings.
- Slide the Show screenshot notification switch on/off.
iii. Showing/Hiding Show connection speed on the status bar.
- On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Slide the Show connection speed switch on/off.
iv. Showing/Hiding notification from a app on the status bar.
If the icon on the status bar is generated from an app notification, you can show/hide it using the following steps:
- On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Manager notifications.
- Find and tap the app you want to disable the notification on the status bar.
- Slide the Show in status bar switch on/off.
or
- On your Xiaomi phone find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap All.
- Find and tap the app you want to disable the notification on the status bar.
- Tap custom notification.
- Slide the Show in status bar switch on/off.
v. Changing the battery indicator on the status bar
- On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Battery indicator.
- Select either Graphical, Percentage or Tap bar.
vi. Changing the time format on the status bar
- On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap Date & time.
- Slide the Use 24-hour format switch on/off.
Note: The more advanced customizations might involve editing the status_bar.xml which requires decompilation/compilation of MiuiSystemUI.apk. It won’t be covered in this blog. I would suggest that you get this information from the MIUI forum.
Note: The steps here were written for a Xiaomi device running MIUI V5. If you’re having a different version of MIUI, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.
