How to USB tether a Xiaomi phone (MIUI V5) with a computer ?

You can share your phone’s Internet connection with a single computer using the provided USB data cable.

To USB tether a Xiaomi phone (MIUI V5) with a Windows computer :

1. Connect your Xiaomi phone to your Windows computer using the provided USB cable.
2. On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
3. Tap General settings > … More > Tethering & portable hotspot
4. Slide the USB tethering switch to the right.
   
5. In a few seconds, the Set Network Location window should pop up on your computer.
   
6. Select a location, and then follow through the wizard to complete it.
7. Now, you’re ready to start browsing.

To USB tether a Xiaomi phone (MIUI V5) with a Mac computer :

1. Go to the HoRNDIS website and download the latest binary. The HoRNDIS driver comes as a package, so just double-click it and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
2. Connect your Xiaomi phone to your Mac computer using the provided USB cable.
3. On your Xiaomi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
4. Tap General settings > … More > Tethering & portable hotspot
5. Slide the USB tethering switch to the right.
   
6. On your Mac computer, go to System Preferences > Network. You should see your phone as one of the connections in the list. The green indicator light next to it shows that you’re connected.
   

Note: The steps here were written for a Xiaomi device running MIUI V5. If you’re having a different version of MIUI, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.
