Features highlighted in the launch event
Huawei has officially unveiled the Huawei nova 6 series smartphone in China which includes the nova 6 5G, the standard nova 6 4G, and the mid-range nova 6 SE.
Here, I will only cover the features of the 5G and 4G variants that were highlighted in the launch event, and leave the SE variant to another article.
i. Design
- The nova 6 5G and nova 6 are both come with a 6.57-inch FHD+ LCD screen with a pill-shaped display cutout and a four-sided 3D-curved glass back.
- The screen supports “e-Book” mode, and has been certified by the TÜV Rheinland for low blue light.
- The 2.4mm fingerprint module on the side (which sits underneath the power button) offers screen unlock in less than 200ms with a success rate of more than 98%.
- The company has also added some creative live wallpapers, and produces some creative cases for these phones.

ii. Performance
- The nova 6 5G and nova 6 are both powered by the Kirin 990 chipset with the former has an additional Balong 5000 modem for 5G connectivity.
- The 5G model has a 4,200mAh battery while the 4G variant has a 4100mAh battery. But, the good news is that, both phones support the HUAWEI 40W SuperCharge fast charging.
- To help dissipate the heat generated by the 5G data transfers and powerful processor, the phone is installed with the 13-layer cooling system with dual heat pipes and one of them is 8mm wide to cover a larger heat source area.

iii. Camera system
- On the front of the nova 6 5G and nova 6, you’ll find two cameras – a 32MP main sensor, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera (105 degree field of view).
- According to DxOMark, the front-facing cameras of the nova 6 5G are the best on the market with a score of 100, overtaking the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G which got 99.

- Around the back, the phones are equipped with Huawei’s flagship ultra sensitive imaging system that offers 40MP super-sensitive main camera which uses the new RYYB filter, Super Night Scene, AI Ultra-clear mode, 30x ultra-long zoom, and 120 ° ultra-wide-angle photography.
- For video recordings, the phones support EIS intelligent video stabilization and 4K ultra HD time-lapse videos which you can also manually set the shooting interval and duration according to different scenarios.
v. Huawei Share OneHop
- Not surprisingly, the nova 6 5G and nova 6 also support the Huawei’s OneHop feature for quick screen casting to Windows PCs, screen casting to the compatible TVs, audio streaming to speakers such as the HUAWEI Sound X Smart Speaker, and transferring of watchfaces to its branded smartwatches.
vi. Gaming
- The phones are also suitable for gaming as they come equipped with a powerful processor, an advanced cooling system, the dual-band WiFi connection and LINK turbo features. The LINK Turbo is designed to improve network connectivity on the phones by intelligently switching between Wi-Fi and mobile connections or even combining both if the games support that.
