Let’s take a look at the menu that controls the display of header area before we start doing any customization.
In the Atahualpa Theme Options, go to Style & edit HEADER AREA. The Configure Header Area section is the place that controls the appearance of header area.
So you can rearrange them or delete anyone according to your own design.
For example, if you want the page menu underneath the header image. Just change the sequence such as below.
%logo %bar1 %image %bar2 %pages
For this tutorial, I will remove the %logo %bar1 %bar2, but add a category menu bar below the image.
1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard. Go to Appearance > Atahualpa Theme Options.
2. Click the Style & edit HEADER AREA.
3. In the Configure Header Area box, change the setting to %pages %image %cats.
4. Click the Save changes to save all settings.
5. Browse the site to confirm the changes.
i. Changing the Header Image
The header images are stored in /wp-content/themes/atahualpa367/images/header/. If there are more than one image files in this directory, the Atahualpa will rotate to display different images each time you browse the site.
If you do not want a rotating image header, simply leave only one image in that directory. This is what we are going to do for this tutorial.
Before we start changing the setting, you need to get the header image ready. You can use Photoshop, Paint.net or any other graphic/image design software to help you on this.
For this tutorial, I have created a simple header image of 980px (W) x 90px (H). The 980px is the length of your site layout which we have configured in Atahualpa Tutorial Part 2.
1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard. Go to Appearance > Atahualpa Theme Options.
2. Click the Header Image option.
3. Change the header image height to 90.
4. Change the Opacity LEFT: Value to 0 to remove the opacity effect on the header image.
5. Change the Opacity Right: Value to 0 too.
6. Connect your web server using the FTP client. Upload your header image file to the /wp-content/themes/atahualpa367/images/header/ directory.
7. Delete those unrelated images by right clicking and selecting the delete option.
8. Browse your site to confirm it’s having the new header image.
