Review
Design and display
What I like:
- The eye-catching design with a transparent glass panel shows off the phone’s internals and the Glyph Interface (which contains the LED strips).
- The 6.55-inch, FHD+ flexible OLED panel with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, certainly looks bright and feels smooth. It also features 240 Hz touch sampling, 10-bit color depth, and HDR10+ support.
- The bezels on all four sides have the same width.
- The default ringtones and notification sounds are quirky, and the lights flash match with the lights on the back.
- IP53 rating for dust and water resistance.
- You can assign a different light pattern for different people, so you know who’s calling you just by looking at the lights.
What you should take note of:
- The box doesn’t come with a charger.
- No HDR support for Netflix.
- No 3.5mm headphone jack
- We can’t bind a light pattern to a specific app’s notifications.
Performance and battery
What I like:
- The Snapdragon 778G+ in the Phone 1 isn’t a flagship processor, but it’s by no means weak. It’s good enough to power your day-to-day tasks and run graphic-intensive games such as Fortnite and Genshin Impact well.
- The 4500mAh battery always got me through a full day of normal use without it draining.
- It supports 15W Wireless charging (hard to find this feature in the mid-range segment)
- It supports Wi-Fi 6.
What you should take note of:
- 33W wired charging isn’t fast compared to some Chinese branded mid-range phones that offer 80W or 120W fast charging.
- The speakers get pretty loud and sound decent. But, the bottom speaker is audibly louder than the earpiece; therefore, the stereo effect is not very balanced.
Camera
What I like:
- Rather than packing with the unnecessary macro and depth sensors, the Phone 1 comes with a pair of capable 50MP cameras, the Sony IMX766 main camera, and the Samsung JN1 ultrawide camera that’s also capable of taking macro shots.
- Good and vibrant shots with plenty of detail in well-lit conditions
- The Night mode helps to capture brighter and sharper photos in dark scenes for both the main and ultra-wide cameras.
- The Pro mode lets you generate RAW files.
- A red light blinks to indicate the recording is in progress. But if you don’t like that you can turn it off.
- The glyph LED strips at the back can act as a fill light whenever you take photos or videos in low light places.
OS and features
What I like:
- 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
