How to clear cache partition on ZenFone 3?

To clear cache partition on your ZenFone 3, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your device.
2. Press the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time until you see the “ASUS in search of incredible” screen.
3. You’ll now get to the Android Recovery menu. Use the Volume button to move the highlight to Wipe cache partition, then press the Power button to select.
4. When you’re prompted for confirmation, select Yes.
5. Once it’s done, you can select Reboot system now.

This isn’t working on my phone. Holding down and power at the same time does nothing. I had to hold power only. And then I pressed down. Now my phones in safe mode.

Having the same issue – and the “system reserved” (which I assume is the RAM?) is completely full and unable to enter. Cache-wipe as above does nothing. Ideas?

Plus – when I restart it and “login” and whatnot, the homepage shows up, I still get 2-3 popups of “bla bla keeps stopping/shutting down” and then the screen turns grey with the LED still on. If I press the power button it shuts down, only to (when pressed again) turn back to the grey.

It worked for me. Thank you! My phone is 3GB, 32GB version (ZE520KL). I first switched off the phone (not just locked it). Then, I pressed the lower volume button and power button simultaneously until the Android Recovery screen appeared as explained. Then I did as directed. It succeeded in clearing the cache. Then I rebooted the phone from the given options there. Thanks again!

After some updates I noticed that the way to boot into the recovery mode has changed slightly on ZenFone 3 (at least for ZE520KL). Here’s the new way:

1. Turn off your device.
2. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time until you see the “Powered by Android” screen.
3. You’ll now get to the Android Recovery menu.

If you need to clear the cache partition, you can continue with the following steps:

4. Use the Volume button to move the highlight to Wipe cache partition, then press the Power button to select.
4. When you get a confirmation prompt, select Yes.
5. Once it’s done, you can select Reboot system now.
