Running without my phone, would I get heart rate alert from honor band 4?

When you start a run tracking from your band, it will be able to show you heart rate, distance, pace, calorie burned and other information. Yes, you’ll be alerted when heart rate reaches the level you’ve set in the Huawei Health app.

So,Liv. I bought a honor band 4 purely for measuring my heart rate.
I do not have a smart phone.
My younger techy relations who have tried to set it up for me on their smart phones are telling me it must be used with a smart phone. Are they wrong?
